Today the term ‘hybrid environment’ has become familiar not only with SharePoint, but as a general trend in the development of all platforms. Essentially the hybrid environment is the combination of coherent local and cloud environments.
This category includes many public and private services that comprise a hybrid solution. One of these services is SharePoint.
Recently, with the release of several new versions, the idea of a hybrid has become the norm thanks to implemented by Microsoft components that are part of Office 365. Some components cannot be applied in the local environment, taking into account the characteristics of their execution and necessity of using other services. In practice, owning resources at all levels, you can build whatever you want, but when you try to go to an environment where a lot does not belong to you, the process becomes much more complicated.
What does hybrid environment give us?
Hybrid environment allows organizations to use existing components with simultaneous access to the cloud, which gives the opportunity to use the new service not available for the local environment.
Building the hybrid model and implementing these benefits, you should have an idea about the architecture of Office 365 and local SharePoint environment.
The basic scheme involves connecting local Active Directory to available Azure Active Directory. This provides synchronization of user accounts and assign licenses of cloud services. Then trough a standard network connection we connect with the local SharePoint environment. This allows you to arrange procedure of single registration and enables end users easily navigate between the two platforms.
So settings of Active Directory Connect was made and accounts were synchronized. What will we get in result? SharePoint Online includes a variety of applications with which cloud services users work efficiently, and it would be useful to make them available to users of local environments and provide interoperability with local data.
Local SharePoint environment configured for hybrid mode, allows you to use the services:
- Hybrid Extranet
- Hybrid OneDrive
- Hybrid Search
- Hybrid Development
- Hybrid Social
- Hybrid Video
- Hybrid Compliance
- Hybrid Data
Local implementation of such capabilities will lead to extending the lifespan of local solutions and accelerating migration to the cloud as new opportunities will create an incentive to use more new services inaccessible to the local environment.
Microsoft is constantly developing new technologies, and a hybrid model of SharePoint in process of creating new environments and modernization will continue to improve and become more standardized.
